ABOUT AXON

Axon Clinical Research is a multispecialty network of independently owned investigator sites located throughout the United States and Africa.
Axon Clinical Research was founded to address a well-known clinical trial challenge: the lack of diversity in clinical research which affects both the patient population as well as the physicians that manage these studies.
​Historically, patients of color have been underrepresented in clinical trials due to various barriers including geographic access, communication of research options, and a general distrust of the medical community and drug development process based on a previous history of gross unethical mistreatment and discrimination. In fact, Hispanic and Latino participants account for 19% of the population in the U.S. but make up only 1% of clinical trial participants. Furthermore, the role of principal investigator (the physician who oversees the clinical trial protocol) is grossly under-represented by Black physicians with less than 1% heading clinical studies.
This shortcoming has created gaps in our understanding of diseases and conditions, preventive factors, and treatment effectiveness across these populations. ​The team at Axon is looking to change this paradigm by representing minority populations in clinical research. We are committed to doing our part to make a more inclusive future for clinical research by building trusted relationships within diverse communities to advance health equity.

OUR MISSION

To bring together and empower Black and minority physicians and patients by opening the doors into clinical research while improving clinical trial access and efficiency. As big data dynamics change, and new technologies and services arise, our goal is to provide minority physicians with the tools to continue to meet the evolving needs of the drug discovery industry and close the gap between clinical research and clinical health care.

At Axon, we have set out to break down these barriers by bringing research to physician’s offices. The Axon approach enables research as a care option in established physician practices. This results in more efficient and cost-effective trials where patients gain access to new treatment options, physicians avoid the cost and effort of building and managing in-house clinical research infrastructure and sponsors/pharmaceutical companies bring new therapies to market faster while getting access to a more diverse population for their clinical studies.
